Getting business from linked in

Who do you know? And who do they know? Now, if you know, say, 50 or 100 people, this is your first level of connections. And if everyone you know, knows the same number of people, this could be 2,500 or 5,000 people. This is your second level of connections. Multiply that by a 3rd level, and you could have access to a huge number of contacts.

This is how Linked In works. Once you have a profile, you can be connected to 3 levels. A profile on linked in is essentially a resume or curriculum vitae or professional profile. Whatever you wish to call it. My profile currently has 16 direct connections, which could link me to 159,600 professionals. Never before have we had access to so many people.

So why use linked in? It is the largest online business network on the Internet with more than 35 million members, but the real power of linked in is that it makes the relationships between people visible. Linked in can be used for job hunting and finding suppliers as well as new customers. Infact, the site encourages it. On the top bar of your linked in profile are search tools for finding people, jobs, answers and companies. Just like a facebook for business, you can send and receive messages (dubbed ‘what are you working on’) and email. You can make and accept new connections, give or receive recommendations from people in your network and join as many professional groups as you like. Best of all, you can watch and keep up-to-date with what everyone in your network is doing.

On linked in there could be one person you know between you and a new customer.
