Netvibes is a free web-based tool that lets you create your own default startup page, combining all the views, widgets, features and functions you what to see when you start your browser. It’s little like google desktop, which also allows you to customise your PC’s desktop. But now netvibes is getting into website design.
I never realised there were so many browsers, but Barb Dybwad tells us about 14 different browsers that are not Internet Explorer. My personal favourite is google chrome. And the reasons are really simple; it has a simple uncluttered user interface, fills the whole screen, has multiple tabs, is free, takes up very little disk and memory space, but most important of all, it’s much faster than Internet Explorer and faster than firefox. For me, that’s a competition killer.
Any tool that makes life easier for those of us who are program development ‘challenged’ is always a boon. Especially if you have a wordpress blog and want the flexibility without the programming. I know I do. This is why I chose thesis as a theme for the blog you’re reading now. But now there’s a new kid in town to challenge thesis. It’s called headway and David Risely has been taking a look. He says it answers the prayers of bloggers who don’t program.
If you are looking for illustration, desktop publishing and web design tools all in one easy you use package, xara xtreme pro may be just what you need. In a recent review, Jennifer Farley likes it. Many of these programs are very clever. I often use Adobe fireworks. Or there is google’s free graphics editor called picasa. But the trouble with all of them is the learning curve. If you’re not a graphic designer, it can take quite a while to master them.
Do you publish a regular email newsletter? Email is still a force to be reckoned with when developing customer relationships, and millions of people still read email newsletters despite the rise of the social network. Mequoda publishers reckon you can maximize revenue from email newsletters by using templates. It makes sense.
I’m an avid explorer and user of web tools. Anything that makes everyone’s life easier is always worth discovering and adopting.
