If you have ever used premium web design software like dreamweaver, you know how frustrating it can be to scale the steep learning curve before producing a web page that looks anything like the way you want. And although dreamweaver is bursting with impressive features, do you ever use them? And dreamweaver is expensive, but is there an alternative?
Kompozer is an open source and free WYSIWYG web page editor or authoring program for the rest of us. If you have a small website or a few web pages you want to create quickly and easily, this software is just the job. Simple to download, Kompozer is a small, lightweight application. This is a welcome change from overbloated Microsoft software.
When you open it up you can see how easy and straighforward it is to use. Your web project is centre stage surrounded by a well organised collection of features almost as good as expensive web editors. It has a stylesheet wizard, to create style rules for all the elements of your page, without any CSS knowledge. Inserting and formatting images is easy and visual with a range of tools for every finish. The table wizard is excellent and just as simple to use. And forms are a breeze to add with no complicated html required.
From design view you can switch to see the code, which is clean and well formatted (unlike the code Frontpage use to create) and the web page preview lays out the page exactly as you designed it. Not always the case with some design tools. As Kompozer is free, it doesn’t come with any documentation. But how-to geek has a good tutorial and you will also find video tutorials on youtube.
