Best HTML editor software

by Terry Dunn on August 5, 2008

As a webmaster or webpage designer your HTML editor is your best friend. Finding an editor that’s easy to use, fully-featured, quick to learn and produces clean, compliant code, is a tall order.

The problem is, you could be a code geek, completely at home with HTML, CSS and other programmimg languages, a ponytail, comfortable with the artistic approach to design, or somewhere inbetween. So it’s hard to find an editor that suits everyone.

The professional’s choice for many years now is Dreamweaver published by Macromedia, which has been sucked into the Adobe software empire, repackaged and marketed as Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Suite 3 or CS3.

But if you don’t have unlimited funds to spend and unlimited time to learn this powerful and complex software package, there is another solution. Linspire has developed a free, Open Source HTML editor called NVU.

NVU is a complete web authoring system for Linux, Windows and Macintosh operating systems to rival programs like Dreamweaver and other high-end HTML editors and Linspire is committed to supporting it too.

It’s a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML and CSS editor with most of the features you would expect to find. It’s easy to download and install, with demos, tutorials and an NVU user support forum.

Being a webmaster has just become a little easier and a lot cheaper.
