Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could make a simple video that went viral with millions of people watching and commenting and talking about your video and your business. It’s the ultimate PR trick isn’t it? And simple, short videos are so easy and inexpensive to make. Upload it to youtube and BAM. You’ve made it! If only it were that easy. Making videos and putting them on youtube is easy. The difficult part is making them go viral.
So, how is done? How do businesses make videos that go viral? Because they do. See Jennifer Van Grove’s the 10 hottest viral video ad campaigns right now, for evidence that it can be done. As I live in the UK I haven’t seen most of these ads, except for the T-Mobile sing-along in Trafalgar Square. Why was it so popular? It’s entertaining to watch, it’s original and it taps into our desire to party and have fun. I think viral videos need to play with our emotions.
But just to switch the emphasis here, yesterday’s video showed an ipod being blended from the famous Blentec does it blend series of videos. These videos were hugely popular and went viral for Blendtec, making their brand name visible to a much bigger audience. Surely these videos were completely different from the T-Mobile video. No. Not really. The does it blend series is fun, wacky and irreverent. It’s original and entertaining. I think there is a pattern here. If you haven’t seen the blending of an ipod, watch the featured video.
Viral videos need to be entertaining, fun, original and engage our emotions.
