Creating videos and mashups

by Terry Dunn on August 26, 2009

Are you into mashups? Er…what’s a mashup? In web design and development terms, a mashup combines data or functions from two or more sources into a single application or result. A simple example is integrating a google map into your website to show visitors where your shop or factory is based.

Animoto is a mashup tool that lets you remix video clips. Ben Parr thinks it’s awesome (an overused word I think!) because it lets you take images, put them to music, and turn them into incredible video slideshows that look great. Animoto have even partnered with istockphoto to help you create your masterpiece.

And talking of making videos, I don’t know about you, but I’ve found it to be more complex and quite difficult to produce a professional looking result, than I had imagined. So, I’m keen to try out screenr. Jennifer Farley loves it. She talks about how to use this new tool to create your own screencast.

Here’s a neat idea. Google maps will now show you traffic conditions on the back roads in some major cities. If you’re like me, you’ll be spending far too much time stuck in traffic, looking at everyone stuck with you and wishing they were gone. What I want to know is when will google expand this feature to cities I get stuck in?

And if you feel inspired to have a go at creating your own video mashup, Omnisio will finally give you free reign to your creative talents. They have made it very easy to edit and merge youtube videos together to create something unique and better. There are plenty of youtube videos that show promise but lack production.

So, get out your directors chair and start creating.
