You may have read an earlier post called best HTML editor software, in which I featured an excellent, dreamweaver look-alike, and free, HTML editor, called NVU. But the NVU website doesn’t really tell you how to use it.
I suggest you start with some simple instructions on how to install NVU. After downloading and installing it, you may want to know about the features and how to use them. Start with Christopher Heng’s article, how to design and publish your website with NVU. He shows you how to build a simple webpage, and when you’re done, there are links to more tutorials, if you liked this one.
Here’s another useful overview of the editor and how to use it to create a simple webpage, written by Crunch 42, called NVU tutorial. The DCCC have created a very good and well illustrated guide called introduction to NVU.
Try a more in-depth PDF document, which you can save on your PC, is a good read and takes you from starting a new page to changing preferences. It’s available from UMSL education and titled creating web pages with NVU.
NVU may not have the power and sophistication of dreamweaver or expression web, but it’s open source software, so it’s free, and there is plenty of simple, easy to read guidance to get you started. So, you don’t need a degree in web design and three months to learn it.
Now there’s a refreshing change.
