Email marketing list building

February 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

Building a list of prospects and marketing to them is great way of turning prospects into customers. And most smart webmasters are busy building an email list, sending them useful content and promoting their products.

Here is a step-by-step plan on how to build a database of prospects using email autoresponders to grow your list, promote your products and services and generate an increasing source of income for your business.

  1. The first task is to write a special report or white paper on a topic that you know your prospects or customers cannot resist. The best format to use when saving the report is Adobe Acrobat PDF.
  2. choose how you will develop a relationship with your prospects; this could be regular tips, newsletter or products reviews. You want to give them something of value to encourage them to stay on your list
  3. In each email, choose how you will promote your products; a short recommendation paragraph and either an affiliate link or link to a product page on your website.
  4. Sign up to a web-based autoresponder service. I recommend getresponse. The monthly cost is reasonable. They provide all the features you need and they have a very high deliverability rate.
  5. Design a squeeze page or opt-in box and a download page. After a visitor submits their name and email address they are redirected to a page to download the free report you wrote in step 1.
  6. Write the first few tips, the first edition of the newsletter or a product review, and upload it to the your autoresponder series.
  7. Add your opt-in box to every page on your website, or replace your home page with your squeeze page. On submission, redirect to your download page, with an exit to your home page or sales letter.
  8. Install google analytics and track your visitors and sign-ups to your list. You should ‘tweak’ your opt-in box or squeeze page copy based on your conversion rate. Testing is the way to increase your profits.

I have successfully used this step-by-step method, and so have many other other webmasters. If you need any help with building a squeeze page, try Chris Keohl’s lead page generator system.
