Tweetmillion is conducting a social experiment to see if he can get one million twitter followers. Apparently about 200 people have achieved this but they have nearly all been celebrities. Can an ordinary twitter member do it too? It should be possible, at least, that’s the concensus of opinion. Most people are on twitter to make friends with people they don’t know, or spread whatever message they have far and wide. When I looked, he only had 182 followers. So, he has much to do.
Social experiments aside, it begs the question, should you be able to build such a big following? Well, yes. Twitter has been created to be completely open, unlike facebook, you don’t need permission to follow anybody’s tweets on twitter. And the great thing about twitter etiquette, is most people will follow you back.
This is why there is such a proliferation of twitter auto-follow tools. I won’t list them all here as there are too many. But one tool is twollow. Twollow will auto-follow people on twitter. You punch in your interests or business niche by keyword. For example, if you are a PPC marketer, type in ppc marketer in twollow, and it will search for tweets that mention these words and follow the tweeter. And most people twollow follows, will follow you back. Twollow will perform up to 500 searches per hour, so you could very quickly build your follower list, based on your interests.
Twollow is not free. It costs $15 a month or $80 a year. But they do have a 7 day trial. Today’s video is a short introduction to twollow. Of course, you could do it manually. Twollow is only automating the task. You could search for people tweeting in your niche using twitter search and then follow them. But it will take much more time and effort. But when you are networking with other people, should you be automating the process?
People really want to connect with people, not robots.
