Your top 100 keywords

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Here is a great tool that been around for a while and is now available as version 2.0. This is what the good keywords website says,

“Good Keywords is a free Windows software for finding the perfect set of keywords for your web pages. Knowing the right keywords to target is very important because your site should provide what people are searching for.

Good Keywords is completely free. No registration, no payments, no nag screens! It is a small 500Kb download, digitally signed and safe to install. We don’t even ask for your email address.”

The good keywords software is freeware and uses, for the most part, the Yahoo (formally Overture) search engine tool. It’s simple to download and install, and there is a web-based user guide too.

It’s also easy to use. Type ‘keyword suggestion’, enter your words into ‘base keyword’ and type ‘go’. Sometimes it takes a while for the results to come back. This is because it’s using the yahoo search tool, which I suspect is given a lower priority on the web server.

For example, when I typed ’stress relief’ it returned 100 keywords, ranked by popularity, displayed as a monthly count. This is the number of times during the last month the specific keyword was typed into the yahoo search engine.

Once you have your list, it can be saved, exported or you can ‘drill deeper’ on a specific keyword. So if I am selling yoga CDs, I might ‘double-click’ on the keyword ‘yoga stress relief’ and it displays 3 more keyword phrases. I can use these phrases to write the content on my webpage, which sells the CDs.

The software will also check mis-spelled words, has a web page explorer, a keyword phrase builder, site and link popularity, and keyword organiser. The web page explorer is useful. It allows you to study the keyword density of words and phrases on your competitor’s website. And the keyword phrase builder combines words to generate a large number of phrases.

Good keywords is an effective and easy-to-use tool for finding popular keywords so you can optimise each page of your site for the search engines.
