The secret recipe

Scott Jason, author of 3 SEO books and who specialises in search engine optimisation services at best seo copywriting, uses what he calls a ‘secret recipe’ when he is optimising web pages for his clients. I love the idea of a secret recipe. In the complex world of SEO, having a step-by-step recipe is very attractive. And if it’s secret, not everyone knows about it either (although the word ‘secret’ is so overused).

You need to learn the secret recipe and then use it. Actually, it’s no secret to those in the know. There is no ‘magic bullet’ either inside books or SEO software that can optimise any web page.

Each page has it’s own unique recipe that must be discovered and applied. I think this is worth highlighting because there’s a lot of confusion about it. Each web page, not website, has a unique way to be ranked in google for a given keyword. This is important too. Different search words get different results. You are making a web page visible for a given keyword in a search engine. The results between search engines are not necessarily the same, although most people focus on google, bing is growing fast.

Finding the right keyword for your page is easy. Just use google adwords free keyword tool. There are other tools, but you are probably optimising for google search, so it’s best to use their data. Scott says there are 10 critical factors for optimising a web page. And he gives a list in his article on DIY SEO with a foolproof twist. There’s nothing unusual here, although he also says there are up to 140 factors google considers. I’m not surprised. It’s not going to be simple.

But it looks like work. All this analysis! It’s free, but very time-consuming, if you are going to do it your self. However, Scott recommends buying a report to tell you what you need to know. And he recommends dotcompirates, who for $49 will provide a report, which analyses your web page along with a detailed step-by-step guide, in english, describing exactly what you need to do to put your web page in the top 10 for any major search engine.

Cook up a top 10 listing for your web page.
