In a recent article Rand Fish from SEOmoz listed 16 tools he considers to be a ‘must-have’ to make your website more popular with google. It’s an excellent list with tools we already know and love, like google’s site map generator,  and a few that I didn’t know about, but think I would like to try, like postrank analytics.

When you publish a new blog post or article, do you know if your article ‘goes wide’ and becomes popular or simply falls flat on it’s face and nobody wants to read it. It’s a good question. To know the answer you need to be a gifted marketer, have a crystal ball or use postrank analytics.

According to postrank over 80% of social engagement with your content doesn’t happen on your blog. The right analytics will help you discover your audience, understand what works, growing your reach and influence. Postrank integrates with google analytics, adds trends and conversations about your content and provides a daily engagement report.

Quantcast is another excellent tool, one that I’ve used a few times. Quantcast is great at measuring a website audience and providing real insight into who visits the site. It can be used for market research and studying the competition. As an example, when I was deciding which social networking site to join, which focussed on small business and entrepreneurs; I used quantcast to look at ecademy and it gave me a really good snapshot of traffic, visitor demographics and more.

There are many useful tools in this article – bookmark it.
