Learning SEO from experts

by Terry Dunn on August 25, 2009

A recent live SEO conference and training, with a line-up of speakers, shows the popularity of learning from industry experts; a fast and effective way of developing your own expertise. I discovered this myself when I attended an Internet marketing conference in the UK back in May. I wrote copious notes and learnt so much.

However, not everyone can attend conferences and seminars, and they can be expensive. Are there other ways of learning how to SEO your website? If you live in the UK, emarketeers offer one day SEO training courses in London for £485. If you live in the US, Bruce Clay has a solid reputation for providing expertise and training.

Or, maybe online training or home-study courses could be the answer. I’ve studied with the Open University and other online training providers, and I can say, hand-on-heart, it was a very effective way of learning. Most providers make good use of multi-media and with forums and email support, help is always on hand.

Googlegeeks provide online SEO training but perhaps the ultimate SEO training is provided by Aaron Wall’s SEObook. I’ve heard a lot of positive feedback about this membership site. You can get a free account with limited access or full access to all the training for $150 a month. The great advantage with membership sites, are you can easily cancel if it’s not to your expectations.

If you want to buy an all-singing-and-dancing software package, Brad Callen offers a complete software and ebook package called SEO elite. Brad has been very successful in the SEO business and the reviews I’ve seen are all good. I’ve read his ebook and his advice is simple but effective.

Now this is something many webmasters miss, but it pays to learn how google crawls and indexes your website. Google have tons of really good training and advice on many of the webmaster skills you need. And if you tire of reading they have videos to watch too.

But if you want to save your money, there is plenty of free advice too. Steve Wiideman offers the top 10 SEO tips for free. Be careful about free stuff. There is often a catch. There really is ‘no free lunch’ with anything that has true value. But free advice will get you started.

There are plenty of experts to learn from. All you have to do is choose.

Today’s video is an SEO tutorial from WebBizIdeas.

Yeah, there is a ton of free advice, but keep in mind, your time is most likely valuable, and therefore you may want to leave it to the pros.
