Bradford Shimp from all business answers gave us a great story of how adding podcasts to his blog opened doors for him (metaphorically speaking, of course). It allowed him to increase his influence, learn from smart people, make his blog more interesting and garner more visitors. A win for everyone, especially Bradford. So, what did he do?
His blog provides advice to small business owners and he decided to add regular podcasts by interviewing experts such as authors, business coaches and business owners. He reckons it was easy to persuade people to be interviewed. I can believe it. Most people cannot resist the urge to give advice along with a little self-promotion. He expanded his own knowledge and got noticed. There are many podcasting directories, including the itunes colossus, which reach a whole new audience.
Interviews are perfect for podcasts and I don’t know about you, but I love to listen to experts discuss topics I want to know more about. Combine regular podcast interviews with blogging and you have the ideal synergy. And you know the best thing about publishing podcasts? They cost so little money. The only real investment is your time (well, that’s true for almost every activity you do on your website).
If you want to add interview podcasts to your website or blog, you will need a microphone or headset, the ability to record the calls and audio editing software. Bradford purchased a program to record skype calls and used google voice. You can get a free MP3 Skype recorder from voip call recording. And I think the best audio editing software is audacity, which is open source so it’s also free. It isn’t difficult to learn these tools, even for technophobes.
Imagine how much fun you could have making interview podcasts.
