Podcasting for business

by Terry Dunn on November 14, 2009

In his article why podcast Chuck Palm reckons podcasting is the simplest way of getting the most bang for your buck on the Internet. And if you watch today’s featured video Dan and Dave from coefficient media tell us about the advantages of using audio podcasting for your business. There is no doubt. It’s a great way to promote your website, business or products. Lets look at some of the benefits.

  • Convenience – you can listen at home, office, gym or car at a time to suit you. If you spend a lot of time in your car stuck in traffic, listening to a podcast is perfect. All you need is an MP3 player.
  • Targetted – by putting your podcast on itunes and other podcasting directories you will only get listeners who really are interested in what you have to say.
  • Authority – when people listen to your podcast they see you as an authority so they trust you. It’s the perfect relationship, which you can leverage.
  • Reach – Producing podcasts and distributing them reaches new audiences. You will gain a whole new raft of listeners, fans and customers.
  • Initimate – It’s just you and the listener. It’s intimate and builds a relationship between you and them, with you as the authority. People like listening as it gives them space to think and a new way of learning.
  • Easy – It’s easy to produce podcasts. The hardware and software is inexpensive and easy to use.

The hardware for podcasting is easy to buy. A simple headset microphone is all you need, but a more expensive condenser microphone will give you better audio quality. Adobe audition is professional audio mixing and production software, which you will need to buy, but you can do it for free with open-source audacity software. I’ve used audacity and it’s excellent.

And when you have produced your podcast you don’t only have itunes to list it on. Blubrry is a podcasting community and directory. Podbean is a podcasting directory and social networking site. And liberated syndication will distribute your podcasts to multiple sites and syndicate it using RSS feeds. It will cost you to join but you get much greater coverage.

Podcasting for business is like having your own radio station.
