Is google getting better?

Did you know you could narrow your searches on google to find material added in the last week, day, minute or even second? Google have a hidden feature allowing you to practically be the only person with the very latest news. But, be careful, as it’s content google has just indexed. So actually, it’s not truly real-time.

Google have also launched a new service to tell you all sorts of statistics about the Internet. I’m not really sure how anyone would use it. I guess they are collecting so much data they want to share some of it with us. I would rather they shared data to help get traffic. But then there is a lots of keyword and traffic data available for free when you have a google adwords account. And that won’t cost you anything either.

Here is a good idea from the google nerds; it’s called google squared. It’s not been released yet as they are still testing it in the google labs. It takes your search and produces the results in the form of a table. This could be a great way of comparing products and features side-by-side. I’ll be watching this space with interest.

Not content with tweaking their seach engine or adding simple features, google have created a more powerful version of their search engine technology code-named google caffeine. Greg Shuey tells you what you need to know if you are interested in where google technology is heading. You can be sure, once it works well, they’ll incorporate into their regular search engine. It’s how they stay ahead of the game.

Ben Parr has also been looking at google caffeine too. In a detailed test of speed, accuracy, temporal relevancy and index size, he concludes google caffeine is fast. It’s moving toward being real-time, spurred on no doubt by the likes of twitter. And it relies more upon keywords to produce better results. So, finding and using the right keyword phrases on your website will be more important than ever.

Google is getting better at everything it does to keep ahead of competition like Bing.
