Is SEO copywriting important?

by Terry Dunn on February 3, 2010

Yes. SEO copywriting is important. The search engines, especially google, can provide huge numbers of targetted visitors and customers. It could make the difference between some traffic and enough visitors to generate big business. You don’t want to have just a great salesletter, but an SEO optimised one too. But, you can’t learn seo copywriting until you learn to write great copy.

This is the message from Karon Thackston of marketing words. In today’s video, Karon gives us a few tips about how to start your copywriting. You put visitors first and SEO second. Search engines won’t buy from you. Start with writing excellent copy and then go back to pleasing the search engines by using the right keyword phrases you want to rank for.

Decide who you are writing for. What are your customer demographics? Who is your audience? The product or service is the same, but the benefits you highlight and write about in your copy is likely to be different depending upon who you are talking to. If your ideal customer is a middle-aged woman in a low income bracket, for example, will look for different benefits compared to a twenty-year old woman with a high income. You need to know all about your customer.

SEO copywriting is important, but it doesn’t come first.
