I have to agree with Mike Michalowicz, author of the toilet paper entrepreneur, when he said your values define who you are. Everybody has values, except many people have never realised what they are. But nevertheless, they strongly influence who you are as a person, what you do, what you enjoy and what you hate. Find something you love and it will align with one of your values. Find something (or somebody) you hate, and it (or they) will be violating one or more of your values. Your values are another way to connect with people.

So, what are my values?

  • Integrity – I say what I mean and mean what I say. I think honesty and integrity is vital in all of my relationships, and it doesn’t matter whether I know them or they are a stranger to me
  • Achievement – if you’re not improving, you’re going backwards. I have goals to reach and I like to get better at what I do. There is satisfaction in achievement. And enjoyment too.
  • Creativity – this more like technical creativity. I am facinated by technology and understand it easier than most of the people around me. But then again, I enjoy writing and the more I write the better I get
  • Discovery – I am drawn to complex systems, and what could be more complex than the internet. There are so many new and exciting things happening on the internet and the pace of innovation is accelerating
  • Freedom – this more like freedom to take inspired action, so maybe it’s more like being inspired. Inspiration is important. It’s where all the best ideas and answers in life come from

Some people ask me why I want to know. Know your values and you will know yourself better.
