Using squeeze pages

February 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Just what are squeeze pages? It’s a single webpage dedicated to collecting visitor names and email addresses, used to build an email list. In return for offering their email address, visitors are usually bribed with a free gift.

It’s a terrific way to build a responsive list of prospects. They get valuable information and the webmaster can provide a regular newsletter, tips, or some other way of keeping in touch, and promote their products.

Squeeze pages are simple to build. They normally consist of a headline, a teaser on what you will get once you enter your name and email address, or a bulleted list of benefits, and a email opt-in box. That’s it.

In this example the visitor might be curious to discover what an invisible squeeze page is? Michael Campbell uses the squeeze technique a little more subtly and Jason DeVelvis discusses the technique in his article, name squeeze pages - what are they and why do we need them?

Now that you have a name for this technique, you will be amazed at how often you’ll see it used on so many web sites. Often it’s created as a pop-up box or better still, a hover box, which does not get blocked by your browser.

I know this name collection technique works from experience. For me it was really an experiment. I signed up with getresponse and created an opt-in box, which offered a free special report. After my visitor submitted their name and email address, they were shown a download page for the special report.

I then advertised the free report with google adwords. After monitoring the page visitor count and sign-up statistics from my autoresponder, I was amazed to find that 1 in 3 visitors signed up to my list. An excellent result.

Unfortunately my google adwords campaign cost me far too much and wasn’t cost effective, so I stopped the experiment. You can spend a fortune with google adwords if you’re not careful. But that’s another story.

So, squeeze page are a great way to harness the power of autoresponders and dramatically increase your list building. This is why they are so popular.
