Just how many different email autoresponders are there? Well, there are three different types, and many commercially available packages of each type. So is choosing the right one for your business going to be a challenge?
Not if I take it a step at a time. You may consider the easiest method is to use your ISP (Internet Service Provider), an email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, and a local PC or server to keep track of your list.
But you would be mistaken because the work involved in managing an email list will grow as your list grows in size. So, at first you could do everything manually but you will quickly run out of time. This is where installing software dedicated to managing your list will help, such as Mailloop, a very powerful and feature rich program.
Although you have your customer or prospect list on your local PC, you will have problems with your ISP as you attempt to distribute a large number of emails, unless you use their email server.
One solution is to buy a self-hosted autoresponder, such as autoresponse plus, to automate your email marketing and mailing list management, which is installed on your web host server. Your web host allows you more bandwidth and is better suited to providing mail servers than your ISP.
But the best solution for most webmasters is to sign up to a remotely hosted service, such as getresponse or aweber. You pay a monthly fee and they take care of updating the email database and distributing the emails. This means there are no installations, email servers or ISP bandwidth problems.
I personally use and can recommend getresponse. They have unlimited autoresponders and an easy to use web-based control panel. Their service is reliable with a high deliverability rate; an important consideration when most ISP’s will block incoming email that is even marginally suspect.
The only disadvantage is your valuable customer or prospect database is remote, but you have the facility to back it up locally on your server or PC.
