If you are thinking of starting a blog, or you already have, David Turnull has some advice for you. But why would you want to start a blog? Well, you’ve probably heard, or read, or I might even have told you already, just how effective blogs are at attracting traffic and visitors. Especially wordpress blogs. Google loves wordpress. David runs his own popular blog, adventures of a barefoot geek, and has compiled 101 ways to promote a new blog.
There are some terrific ideas in his list including a few unique ways to attract traffic. David’s tips include content, facebook, fundamentals, online video, other blogs, other people, paying for traffic, podcasting, SEO, social networking, stumbleupon, su.pr, twitter and wordpress. Create a facebook app for your blog is an intriguing idea. He’s suggesting you use blogfuse. They reckon you can create a facebook app in minutes just by using their simple wizard, filling-in a few fields, click and boom! Your very own facebook app. What can I say. I just have to try this one for myself.
Of course, twitter is a hot topic right now. This social networking site is growing in popularity at a phenomenal rate. But you don’t need me to tell you that. And where people gather is a good place to promote. As you can see, I am on twitter too. Another David, David Risley is also a successful blogger with some excellent advice, this time on the best way to use twitter to promote your blog. I think we’d all like to know the answer and you can by watching the featured video.
The first recommendation he makes is to feed your blog posts into twitter. You can do this with 3rd party tools, such as twitterfeed. Then all of your followers get to see your words of wisdom automatically. But that’s not all you should be doing. As David says, twitter is a social network community, and you should join in the conversations. Be social. You should manually post tweets and interact with your followers. Er…hold on…I’m not doing that! Oops. I think I need to be following this advice myself.
There are certainly no shortage of ideas to promoting a new blog.
